PLATFORM FOR DANCE

The Name of the Game: SNAKES AND LADDERS is an innovative choreographic work by Christina Hanssen, created as part of her Bachelor’s degree in Dance at Kristiania University College. Inspired by the classic board game Snakes and Ladders, the piece explores themes of competition, victory, and the uncertainty of what awaits at the top.

Rooted in traditional jazz dance, the work investigates how the genre can be expanded and redefined as a contemporary art form. By blending technical precision with experimental and character-driven movement, the choreography creates a dynamic and visually cohesive universe. Feminist perspectives subtly inform the piece, aiming to revitalize and contextualize feminism within today’s challenges.

Rather than simply entertaining, the work seeks to engage and challenge the audience, inviting reflection through complex emotions and layered artistic expression. Through the contrast between its aesthetic universe and everyday reality, the piece encourages deeper contemplation of both dance and the structures it reflects.
